Michael Diaz Rivera Turned Past Mistakes into Meaning

Michael Diaz Rivera made mistakes as a young man. At 19, with a marijuana charge and a felony, it meant jail and trouble finding a job. He finally landed a job at a family fun center and it changed his life. His knack for working with kids led him into mentoring and volunteer work and then a paid position with Friends for Youth and two years later, a teaching position in Denver Public Schools.
